I'm so glad the video was raw and hard to watch. Addiction, abuse, self harm all these taboo topics are always romantisided, symbolised, pretty and poetic. But the reality is uncomfortable and bloody, it makes your stomach turn. The day I stopped using flowery metaphors in my poetry for my abuse and self harm to the point where it couldn't possibly be read by anyone else, I saw it for its truth. And the truth of it cant always be wrapped up in that perfect little simile that everyone can somewhat relate to. The truth of it all is lonely and scary. But the truth, in the end, is all there is.

I am a recovering heroin addict and this is exactly what it’s like! Your brain justifies small actions that lead to bigger things that you never see coming. Every person who has made it to that point has said it, just like everyone else who hasn’t “I would never do that!” “would never do heroin” “I would never use a needle“. Etc. Nobody grows up or wakes up one day wanting to be like that. It’s not a single choice. It is a mixture of many small bad decisions, bad company, bad influence, heartbreak and trauma that leave you vulnerable to it. It happens so slowly and all of a sudden it’s too late. Every person and I mean EVERY person could go through this! I’ve seen rich housewives, business professionals, college students, high school students, 80-year-olds with walkers getting on and off the methadone bus. Addiction has no discrimination. The best thing you can do is be self-aware. There is a lot of good in this world but evil lurks behind every corner.

Dealing with anxiety and depression is something that I can understand because I’m going thru that as well since I was in my early teens and I’m still going thru it. Demi, we will always love you and support you every day to keep you happy. Because we need to focus on helping ourselves only to get better...and never let anyone take advantage of the situation anymore. We have the power to say yes or no but we also need to rely on someone to help us out when we need them.
